About the Yeshiva

    Shaar Hashamayim Kabbalah Yeshiva

Over 113 years of esoteric Torah at the heart of Jerusalem

    01

Where the Gates of Heaven Opened

Yeshivat HaMekubalim 'Shaar Hashamayim' was founded in the holy city of Jerusalem, within the walls of the Old City, more than one hundred and fourteen years ago. The very existence of a yeshiva dedicated specifically to the study of the hidden Torah was, in those days, a tremendous innovation and a powerful breakthrough — for throughout all the generations this wisdom had been transmitted only privately, in secret, from master to trusted disciple, with only select individuals being granted entry into the gates of Kabbalah.

    02

The Dream that Became a Yeshiva

By a special heavenly providence, two of the leading Mekubalim of the generation — the Tzaddik HaMekubal Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach zt"l (a direct descendant of the holy Baal Shem Tov), and the Tzaddik HaMekubal Rabbi Shimon Horowitz zt"l — merited a sublime heavenly revelation. On the very same night, at the very same hour, both dreamed an awesome and wondrous dream: the holy Tanna Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and the holy Arizal appeared to them and commanded that the time had come to reveal the wellsprings of the hidden wisdom to the wider public, through the founding of a great yeshiva — 'and through it the children of Israel shall be redeemed from exile.'

    03

The Meeting that Built an Eternal Home

In the dream they were also given a precise time and a hidden place before dawn, where they would meet, and together establish the holy house. And so it was — both tzaddikim met at the exact place and time they had been shown from heaven, and together they established the House of God that stands in glory to this very day in the holy city of Jerusalem — the world-renowned Yeshivat 'Shaar Hashamayim.'

    04

Blessed by the Giants of the Generation

From the very first moment of its founding, the yeshiva received warm and enthusiastic support from every circle, and the full approval and blessing of the leading Torah giants of the generation — the Gaon, author of 'Chelkat Yoav' zt"l, who sent his son-in-law, the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Kalisher zt"l, to study at the yeshiva; Maran HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Halevi Soloveitchik zt"l; and the other luminaries of the generation, who saw in it a cornerstone in the spiritual edifice of the Jewish people.

"And through it, the children of Israel shall be redeemed from exile with mercy."
